The challenge was to design an intuitive and engaging way for users to complete daily goals within their personalized journeys.
Timeline
From Ideation to final designs in 4 weeks.
Background
Initially, the project aimed to build the AI assistant, Meeka, which was designed to guide users through personalized self-help journeys by curating relevant content and recommendations based on their progress.
However, due to technological constraints, we shifted focus to the latter part of the user flow: how users interact with their personalized journeys and the dashboard.
Design Challenge
Users faced difficulties in tracking their progress, understanding their next steps, and maintaining motivation throughout their journeys. The dashboard needed to provide clear progress tracking, actionable next steps, and an engaging user experience that encouraged continued participation.
This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including analysis, design, and validation.
Understanding the Requirements
We began by gathering insights from the InPower leadership team and stakeholders to understand user needs and business goals. Additionally, we reviewed existing design components and explored opportunities for improvement.
Sketching & Ideation
We initiated the design process by creating rough sketches to brainstorm possible layouts and interactions. These sketches helped visualize the structure of the journey dashboard and provided different ways for users to engage with their progress.
Low-Fidelity Prototyping & Internal Testing
After sketching, we translated the concepts into low-fidelity wireframes to map out user interactions. We then conducted internal testing with the team to validate the flow and identify potential usability issues.
High-Fidelity Prototyping & Refinement
Based on feedback from internal testing, we iterated on the designs to create high-fidelity prototypes. These prototypes underwent another round of internal testing to ensure usability, consistency, and alignment with InPower’s design system.
Final Adjustments & Delivery
We collaborated closely with the InPower design team to refine UI components and ensure a cohesive look and feel. Final refinements were made based on stakeholder feedback before handing off the annotated Figma design files ready for development.
Lack of Guidance
Users expressed a need for clear guidance on where they were in their journey and what steps to take next. They wanted to feel confident in their progress, but without a structured view, they struggled to visualize their current status or next actions.
Staying Accoutable
Users needed a way to stay accountable and understand whether they were meeting their goals over time. They wanted to track their consistency and identify progress patterns but didn’t have a tool to do so.
Eliminate Rigid Goals
Research indicated that users wanted to be able to modify their goals when circumstances changed. They expressed frustration with rigid goal structures and needed a more flexible approach that allowed them to adapt their plans as needed.
Our solution tackled critical usability challenges identified through stakeholder insights and internal testing. We addressed the lack of clear guidance by structuring journey steps in a way that made it easier for users to understand their progress and next actions.
Clear Goal Progression
Designed the journey dashboard to provide structured, step-by-step guidance, helping users understand their progress and next actions with clarity.
Goal Tracking Calendar
An interactive calendar that allowed users to track past goal completions, including whether they fully completed, partially completed, or missed their goals on specific days.
Flexible Goal Management
Enabled users to edit, pause, and skip goals, giving them greater control over their journey and allowing for a more personalized experience.
Here, the outcomes and achievements of the project are highlighted
Increased User Engagement
InPower’s team noted feedback from users that this feature would motivate them to track their progress and give them a stronger sense of accountability and ownership, leading to greater user engagement.
Adaptability is key
Shifting from designing Meeka’s AI onboarding flow to focusing on the journey dashboard required flexibility in our approach. This experience reinforced the importance of being open to change and quickly adjusting strategies based on technical constraints and evolving priorities.
Iterative testing improves usability
Internal feedback and testing at different stages helped refine the experience before finalizing the design. Conducting multiple rounds of usability testing allowed us to identify pain points early, make data-driven design improvements, and ensure the final product met user needs effectively.
